To recognise sustainability in the eyewear industry, MIDO has joined forces with ANFAO and Certottica to launch the CSE Award (Certified Sustainable Eyewear). For the first edition of the award in 2023, all exhibitors at the fair are eligible and can submit sunglasses, frames or cases for it.

An international jury of experts will then evaluate the submitted products, which must be manufactured according to the principles of sustainability to be eligible for the award, according to MIDO organisers.

Recycled materials, reduced consumption in production and distribution, supply chain maximisation, waste reduction, degree of recyclability, use of renewable resources and certifications already achieved are just some of the criteria the jury will use to determine the first winners in the six categories, they said:

MIDO: A necessary step
After the award for the most sustainable exhibition stand (“Stand Up for Green Award”), now comes another award for sustainability, now for eyewear and cases. “This is a necessary step in the eyewear industry,” comments MIDO President Giovanni Vitaloni.

“In our industry, there are companies that have long been committed and active in the field of sustainability (environmental, social, economic). I believe that we should join forces to be inspired by the experience of these companies, to improve wherever possible and to keep up to date to make the whole industry grow in this direction with great professionalism and determination.”
And on the new award, “This award is a fundamental milestone for us, but it is not the end of this journey, but the stage of a journey that began in 2019 and for which MIDO has obtained ISO 20121:2012 certification in 2022, proving the sustainable management of major events.”
From 15 December, MIDO exhibitors will be able to download the CSE Award regulations from the MIDO website, view all judging criteria and submit their nomination.
