With a new layout in Halls 6 and 7, SILMO Paris 2023 is reinventing the itinerary to arouse visitors’ curiosity and encourage their discovery of the nearly 1,000 exhibitors. This redesigned space is not the only innovation for the event at the end of September.
“Since its creation, SILMO Paris has been committed to accompanying professionals in inventing the future of optics and eyewear with actions that inform and enhance the industry’s potential,” says Amélie Morel, Chair of SILMO Paris. For the upcoming edition of the fair, from 29 September to 2 October, the organisers have again thought of a lot. The presentation of the eyebuzz Award to a promising start-up will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Newcomer Area, the Champs-Élysée avenue between Hall 6 and 7 (see the yellow markings).

SILMO Next with Futurology
The interdisciplinary discussion area SILMO Next, dedicated to futurology, offers a retrospective of the latest technological innovations. This necessary stock-taking, it is said, makes it possible to (re)discover the most important advances in smart eyewear, phygital experiences and eco-friendly design.
In addition to this immersive retrospective, “Futurology” offers special experiential areas where visitors can try out smart products, discover the latest trends in virtual reality and experience an innovative approach to sustainable production: Visitors have the opportunity to spray spectacle frames with plastic made from recycled bottles and can win a pair of customised spectacle frames made on site.
Trends by SILMO
The trends in ophthalmic optics are as clear as ever and are reflected in the digital magazine “Trends by SILMO”. In a specially designed space, the most important trends are presented through a selection of the best optical and sunglass frames from the exhibitors at the fair.
SILMO Paris launches the digital magazine “Trends by SILMO” for each of its editions. New applications, weak signals, strong concepts – this inspiring issue reveals the style and design perspectives for 2023/2024 and an in-depth analysis of all the industry’s influences.
“Design Contest” for students
Following the launch of SILMO Paris 2022, the optical design contest is back this year, inviting students from design schools around the world to respond to a topical theme: sport. The jury, made up of professionals from the fields of optometry and design and chaired by Marie-Christine Dorner – interior architect, designer and set designer – will meet on Friday 29 September to choose the winner from the various concepts selected on the basis of a complete file and a 3D printed prototype.
The 30th SILMO d’Or
The 30th edition of the SILMO d’Or Awards to recognise innovation and creativity has been an exceptional event since its inception in 1994 and is the ultimate accolade for the ingenuity and inventiveness of over 330 companies. This year’s jury is chaired by Nicolas Fafiotte, couturier of extraordinary moments.
IOA award for best optician
And finally: “The International Opticians Association (IOA), a professional association based on the other side of the English Channel, awards a prize every year in collaboration with SILMO Paris to honour an optician who stands out for exemplary professionalism. In the run-up to the SILMO d’Or awards ceremony, the jury had the honour of making a shortlist of the five finalists: Jean-François Porte from France, Phernell Walker and Carrie Wilson from the United States, Angela Mitchell from New Zealand and Vitor Manuel Simoes Martins from Portugal.”
Paris honours exhibitors for sustainability
This year, SILMO Paris is going one step further to guide the optical community on the important but sometimes complex journey towards “corporate social and environmental responsibility” by offering an award for sustainable companies – for progress in the field of social and environmental responsibility.
To combine knowledge in the field of optics with the expertise of a recognised leader in CSR, SILMO is working with Hyssop, a CSR agency, which will draw up the specifications for the award and carry out the third-party assessment of the companies applying. The jury will meet in mid-September. The winning company will be announced on 30 September during the SILMO-d’Or evening.
Academy: Optimising performance
“From performance planning to success: the elite of ophthalmology”: this is the motto of the SILMO Academy 2023. The wording is a reference to the Rugby World Cup, which will coincide with the SILMO exhibition 2024 and the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Over two days – Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October – the 12th edition of this scientific conference will address the question of how to optimise performance and guarantee success from two angles: the performance of the optician and the performance of the vision of the defective person.
