After EssilorLuxottica announced the death of Leonardo Del Vecchio on 27 June, the board of directors of the French-Italian group met yesterday. They paid tribute to Del Vecchio’s services and commitment and appointed a new chairman.

EssilorLuxottica’s Board of Directors met on 28 June to pay tribute to Chairman Leonardo Del Vecchio, who passed away peacefully the previous day.
He will forever be remembered for his values, robust leadership, passion, exceptional character and commitment to the company and its employees, the Board of Directors said.
New Chairman for EssilorLuxottica
At the meeting, the Board of Directors appointed Francesco Milleri as its new Chairman for the remainder of his term. Francesco Milleri will also continue his term as Chief Executive Officer of EssilorLuxottica.
The Board also decided to consider the merits of appointing an Executive Director from among its independent members. A final decision on this would be made before the end of the year.
The Board also confirmed Paul du Saillant as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of EssilorLuxottica.
New member Mario Notari
Mario Notari was also elected as a new member of the EssilorLuxottica Board of Directors.
Notari is a full professor of corporate and commercial law at the Università Bocconi in Milan and a member of the doctoral committee for commercial law at the Università Bocconi. He is also founder and partner of “ZNR notai”, a public notary and lawyer in Milan. From 2015 to 2018, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Luxottica Group S.p.A. and is a member of the Board of Directors of Delfin S.à r.l..
Mario Notari will be considered as a non-independent director of EssilorLuxottica. His appointment will be put to a shareholder vote at the company’s next annual general meeting.
